Amplenote offers the ability to calculate relative dates and mathematical formulas by using surrounding your formula in curly braces, for example if you enter {1+1}
, we will calculate the result and store the formula in a Rich Footnote like this: 2
Following are the types of calculations Amplenote can make, and how those can be used for more effective backlinking.
linkDate & time calculations
Date calculation is often combined with double-bracket syntax to link to notes named for future days, which will show up in Jots mode when that day arrives. You can see this in action in Shu Omi's video at the 13:15 mark.
Make sure to type the closing }
bracket manually in order to trigger the evaluation of the expression inside.
linkDate calculation
Expressions used for date calculation are useful for:
Setting start dates using the Start at
option in the Task Details: Creating tasks & to-do lists, and configuring task options#Set a "Start Time" (aka "Due Date");
Creating daily jots - past or future: What is a "Jot" and how is it different from a "Note"?#🗓️ Creating future daily Jots;
Simply creating time stamps in your notes, wherever they are needed.

Date and time calculation:
linkDate calculation: defining recurring rules
The following expressions don't work when used inside curly brackets { }
like the rest of the examples on this page. Instead, these expressions are meant to be used for setting recurrence rules for your tasks using the Start at
field in the Task Details: Creating tasks & to-do lists, and configuring task options#Repeat on fixed schedule.

Table of Contents
If you're a paying subscribing, you can insert a table of contents by entering {toc}
. It will paste a hierarchical list of all the sections within your note.
Here's how it looks for this note:
And here's how that got made:

If you change the note headings, you'll need to regenerate the table of contents. In a future version of the feature, we plan to offer a table of contents that automatically updates. In the meantime, enjoy the opportunity to optionally embed Rich Footnotes in the non-changing ToC, or tweak its text vs headings. 😅
